The Hermitage Residence is a ground up Single Family Residence in the North Center Neighborhood of Chicago. It is 3,800 sq ft above grade plus an additional 1,900 sf of Basement space. Our clients are husband and wife and their 2 college aged sons who moved from the suburbs after the children had graduated from High School in order to take advantage of the convenience, culture and renowned cuisine that Chicago provides. The program included an office, gym and recreation room in the basement. The first floor has a formal living room at the front off of the entry foyer. A space containing the kitchen and dining room in the center of the house and a generous family room overlooking the rear garden of the house. The center of the house is brightened by a south facing center courtyard and a large skylight at the top of the stair hall. The top floor has 2 bedrooms for the kids and a generous primary suite which includes an additional office and bathroom adjacent to it. Wide hallways and oversized openings between living spaces give the house a generous, light filled presence. Following the completion of the project, the Owners had an opportunity to buy the neighboring property to the north which had a dilapidated house on it which was subsequently demolished and now provides a positive garden to compliment the house. Exterior materials include brick, flush composite siding.
